fibershed challenge
June 2022-September 2022
The Fibershed Rooted in Simplicity event focused on the meaning and power of what we wear and how we care for those textiles over time. The Student Designer Challenge was to create a garment which is completely biodegradable. This look is comprised of locally grown* 100% cotton terry and cotton thread. The fabric received no color treatments and has been left in its undyed, natural state.
*Local to Sonoma/Marin Counties in Northern California
recolor design competition
January 2022-May 2022
The ReColor Design Competition centered around the idea that in order to transform the fashion industry, we must focus on reducing waste in the apparel lifecycle. Overstock and sustainably sourced fabrics are transformed through the use of color and print using natural dye materials.
This look was inspired by the pandemic, futurism, and streetwear. The sweatpants are a nod to our collective shift to loungewear in 2020-2021, as we sheltered in place and stayed inside, taking comfort where we could.
Garments are botanically dyed with quilted silk velvet donated to the SRJC.
